Old School Beef photoshoot for Grass Roots Magazine.

What will probably be my last photography commission in Tasmania before returning to the UK was a suitably fitting shoot for Grass Roots Magazine on Old School Beef; a real Tassie lifestyle operation.

It is always great to see your work in use and getting the cover shot on a magazine is of course especially exciting. This is particularly so with Grass Roots which is all black and white inside. I knew the design of the front cover would require a square image so the shot was composed with that in mind. I stood on the back of the old farm ute to get the high angle view and thankfully both the children and the cows were very cooperative!

Working on commissioned assignments (0r earning income elsewhere) is a necessity for most stock photographers and it has added benefits beyond just revenue. As a lone stock photographer it can be tough to continually generate fresh ideas and images. Getting sent out on assignments affords a break from this while keeping the camera in hand. While out shooting on commissions for clients I not only get to see places and meet people I might not otherwise do, but invariably I also come away with ideas and often images for stock.

Hopefully I’ll be out and about shooting some photography assignments back in the UK before too long!
